I use one of three methods to create murals: the Direct, Indirect or Double Reverse method. I used the Double Reverse method to restore a church mural that was 8 feet by 8 feet in size, located on an outside, 3rd-story wall, and 30 feet above ground.

Here are the steps by which I reconstructed the mural in the church basement:

Draw the composition on paper.
Trace the drawing onto tracing paper, then flip it over to create a ‘mirror view’.
Lay clear mosaic tape over the traced design.
Apply the mosaic tiles onto the clear mosaic tape. The double-sided Smalti tiles show the design’s true colors.
Divide the mosaic into small blocks.
Glue a fiberglass mesh to the back of each block.
Cut the small blocks out, and then flip the blocks back over.
Glue the mosaic blocks to the church wall in the original mural design.
